On Wednesday afternoon the NFL release the preseason schedules for all teams, including the New York Giants. Here’s a rundown of the who the Giants will play in preparation for the 2018 regular season.
- Week 1 (Aug. 9-13): Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium
- Week 2 (Aug. 16-20): Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
- Week 3 (Aug. 23-26): New York Jets at MetLife Stadium (Giants will be the road team)
- Week 4 (Aug. 30): New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium
First-year head coach Pat Shrumur gets three of four games at MetLife Stadium this preseason, including three against AFC opponents. The Giants and Jets will meet in the annual ‘MetLife Bowl’ at MetLife Stadium in Week 3. The Week 4matchup against the Patriots will be a matchup of XLVI and XLII, both of which the Giants won.
There is speculation that Shurmur wants to have a joint practice with at least one of the teams the Giants play this preseason. The Patriots have been a team in the past that has been open to joint practices. The Giants play New England in Week 4. That, though, is a short week that likely doesn’t lend itself to joint practices.
NFL expected to announce preseason schedule today.

I know: big deal, who cares?
But here's why, in one particular way, it is notable for #NYGiants:
Pat Shurmur wants to have joint practices this summer. In theory, that happens with a team in the walk-up to a preseason game.
While the Giants 2018 regular season schedule has yet to be announced, the opponents have. Here is a look at the teams that the Giants will play in the regular season.
Home: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins, Bears, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Saints, Titans.
Away: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins, Colts, Falcons, Panthers, Texans, 49ers.
