Giants news, 3/9: DRC at safety? Maybe not

Veteran might not be switching positions after all

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at New York Giants Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie moving to safety? Maybe not so fast. A report Thursday in the New York Post contradicts an earlier report that DRC would be switching from cornerback to free safety.

It is wise to pump the brakes on the anticipation that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is switching positions, from cornerback to free safety. That decision has not been made by the Giants and certainly not been mentioned to Rodgers-Cromartie, someone with knowledge of the situation told The Post.

Moving Rodgers-Cromartie to safety would make sense, but it would also leave the Giants short on cornerbacks.

Off-season program set

The Giants will begin their off-season program on Monday, April 9. There will be a voluntary mini-camp April 24-26 and a rookie mini-camp May 11-12. OTAs will begin Monday, May 21. Mandatory mini-camp will be held June 12-14.

Owa Odighizuwa to Buffalo Bills

The Bills announced on Thursday that they had signed the defensive end, a 2015 third-round pick by the Giants. After two unproductive seasons that saw him register no sacks and only four tackles, Odighizuwa was out of the NFL last season. He will be 26 this season.
