Todd McShay of ESPN is out with his second mock draft [Insider only] of the 2018 NFL Draft season, and he has gone chalk at the top of the draft. McShay gives USC QB Sam Darnold to the Cleveland Browns at No. 1 and UCLA QB Josh Rosen to your New York Giants at No. 2.

Here is how McShay explained the selection of Rosen for the Giants:

New coach Pat Shurmur has publicly supported 37-year-old Eli Manning as New York’s starting QB next season, so this pick remains the same as my last mock. The Giants could take Rosen as the heir apparent, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team traded with New York to get ahead of the Jets and Broncos in an effort to grab Rosen. Drafting Saquon Barkley to pair with Odell Beckham Jr. could be a possibility as well. The Giants have a lot of options.

More interesting than the pick is McShay’s acknowledgment of the options the Giants have, particularly trading down and adding picks.

We have discussed that possibility quite a bit, and will continue to do so. By moving down in the top 10 and collecting additional picks the Giants could perhaps still get a quarterback if they wish, and have additional selections to bulk up a roster that needs help in several areas.
