New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Wednesday that the New York Giants “know what we’re looking for. We know when we see it,” when it comes to the quarterback position.
The Giants, of course, have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and many analysts expect them to use the pick to find an heir apparent to veteran quarterback Eli Manning.
So, what is that the Giants are looking for?
“You want a guy who is a good decision-maker in all facets of his life. You want to walk away and say, ‘This is the guy,’ “ Shurmur said.
Shurmur touched on several other topics during his press conference at the 2018 NFL Combine. Via Twitter, here is some of what Shurmur said.
Drafting a quarterback
Pat Shurmur said the Giants “have a good idea of what a good quarterback is.” Adds: “We know what we’re looking for, we know when we see it.”

Obligatory Davis Webb quotes
Pat Shurmur went back and watched QB Davis Webb’s college tape to learn more about him. Obviously his pro tape is limited. Said he likes what he’s seen so far.

Pat Shurmur: Davis Webb practice tape is “terrific.” Says Eli & Davis “are in the building every day. I gotta hold back on talking ball with them.” (My take: NFL offseason rules make no sense.) #NFLCombine

Eli Apple
Shurmur reiterated GM Dave Gettleman’s stance that Apple has a clean slate heading into next season.
Shurmur says it's a clean slate for Eli Apple and not concerned about family issues that came up last year. #Giants

On having the No. 2 overall pick
Pat Shurmur says the #giants have an “open mind” about the No. 2 pick and need a franchise-changing player. He notes the high picks used on LT and Carl Banks in past.
