Liberty Bowl - Missouri vs. Oklahoma State

Will the Giants’ future at quarterback be on the field today?

NCAA Football: Missouri at Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants’ 2018 season is officially in the books, but there is still football to be played this week. It’s college football, as we are in the heart of Bowl Season, but be that as it may, we have games to watch.

And as Eli Manning’s future is called into question with the Giants, we once again have to pay attention to the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming draft.

In this case, I want to highlight the Liberty Bowl, specificially, out of today’s games because of the potential quarterback question.

Liberty Bowl - Missouri vs. Oklahoma State

ESPN - 3:45 p.m.

This game is about Drew Lock, and the beginning of Lock’s draft process. As Mark Schofield points out in his look at how the Giants could address the quarterback position going forward, Lock could be an option for the Giants.

That option would probably center around trading back in to the first round (a la Baltimore for Lamar Jackson) after selecting the best player available at sixth overall (provided one of the top quarterbacks isn’t that player).

Lock has solid size, impressive arm strength, and mobility that will entice scouts — he was Mel Kiper’s top QB entering the season. However, his play this season has been inconsistent at best, with a strong start, a bad stretch of conference games, and then a strong finish. He will need to show that the strong finish can be sustained, and this bowl game is the first step. It helps that Oklahoma State (like many Big XII schools) doesn’t play great defense. Tight end Albert Okwuegbunam will miss the game due to a shoulder injury, but Lock could still put up big numbers.

Players to watch

Missiouri

  • Drew Lock (QB)
  • Emanuel Hall (WR)
  • Terry Beckner (DT)

Oklahoma State

  • Justice Hill (Running back)
  • Jordan Brailford (EDGE)

While I wanted to concentrate on this game in particular, feel free to use this as an open thread for all of today’s college football action.
