Good morning, New York Giants fans! Let’s get right to your morning headlines.

The benefit of playing for something

The Giants are alive, barely, for a wild-card spot. With three weeks left in a long season, that knowledge is a motivational factor.

“I think it helps. I think it helps knowing you still have a chance,” quarterback Eli Manning said. “It’s the mindset that we just have to keep. We have to keep doing our part, and that’s winning football games, and just knowing that there’s still hope if we do our part and get a little help. It keeps everything lively in the locker room. Everyone wants to go out there and keep winning football games, and keep feeling good in the locker room after games.”`

Saquon Barkley: “We’re still figuring it out”

The Giants are averaging 31.4 points per game the past five weeks, and rookie running back Saquon Barkley likes the versatility of the offense.

“I’ve been saying that from the point I got drafted, that we’re a versatile team. We have so many weapons on this team, and we’re still figuring it out,” Barkley said. “Right now, when you got (QB) Eli (Manning) throwing for three touchdowns and we’re rushing for over 200 yards as a team, special teams is playing great, defense is giving us great field position with the help of special teams, our defense is making plays. That’s what coach has been saying, teams beat teams. Players don’t beat teams. We’ve been playing at a high level as a team.”

Beckham injury update

Odell Beckham Jr. (quad) was a limited practice participant on Wednesday, doing individual drills. The Giants, of course, always benefit from having Beckham in a game. They showed Sunday vs. Washington, though, that they can play well without him.

“Teams beat teams, and at this time of year, I’ll bet there’s no teams that are playing with their initial rosters,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “Team beat teams, and that’s where guys step up and make an impact in the game in and around injuries. I think that’s safe to be said about any position group or any player.”
