Starting the Rebuild Early (Moves the Giants should make now)

Hey guys and gals!

So look, everyone here knows when you rebuild, there's 2 types of players (non-draft prospects aka guys who are already here) that you need to build around. One would be the younger, "years-to-come", guys who are going to be key cogs in the machine, and 2 would be the older crop who are valuable in their skillsets and leadership of the younger players (Zak DeOssie for example).

That being said, why wait for the season to be over to start rebuilding the team? There are plenty of moves that can be made now at certain positions just to acquire more talent for the "win next near" campaign. So, without further adu, here's some moves I think the Giants could make right now (and some that can be made later on).

  1. Add DE/OLB Nate Orchard and release DT John Jenkins
Why: Our LB corps needs more bodies to throw into the mix, especially guys who can cover TEs. DT John Jenkins is nothing more an overweight NT who constantly gets blown off the line (that is, when he's not a healthy scratch on game day). With RJ McIntosh back, Jenkins became even more expendable.
  2. Promote RB Jhurrel Presley and release RB Eliijhaa Penny
Why: I get that Penny is supposed to be a sort of supplemental-type player but let's be honest Presley earned a spot on this roster with his ability to catch passes out of the backfield. He's like a younger Shane Vereen.
  3. Sign OT Darrell Williams and release CB Antonio Hamilton
Why: Hamilton is easily the #6 CB on our roster and, aside from Wheeler, Soldier, and Greco (past experience), we have no viable OTs. Williams isn't a game-changer but he's only 25 and isn't a bad option for cheap.
  4. Sign CB Phillip Gaines and release FS Curtis Riley
Why: If I watch Riley take one more jackass angle or miss one more tackle I may actually slam my head through the TV. Let Sean Chandler and Michael Thomas take over until season's end.
  5. Sign CB Leonard Johnson and release OG Patrick Omameh
Why: Because paying $5 million per year to someone who can't block is infuriating. Stock up on CBs now for the offseason and make this less of a weak spot.
Offseason Trades

  1. Trade a 2019 6th Round Pick to the Bills for DE Shaq Lawson
Why: Lawson is the victim of being a poor scheme-fit in Buffalo. Maybe he can go back to the player he was at Clemson with the more aggressive, Bettcher-style defense here.
  2. Trade CB Janoris Jenkins for LB Haason Reddick
Why: The Cardinal's secondary needs all the help it can get and Reddick has been deemed ill-fit for their scheme. If they're willing to take on Jenkin's contract I see no reason why this wouldn't be a fair swap.

Thats all i got for now. Let me know what you think below.

EDIT: I changed the Chiefs back to Cardinals...forgot who Reddick played for lol
