Fantasy Football: Waiver wire adds for Week 13

A little help for your playoff push

It’s crunch time in the fantasy season. For many, there’s just one week remaining in the regular season. Others have two at the most. For those who need a boost, there are a couple high upside picks who have emerged and one who has been forgotten about by some due to injury.

Before we get to this week’s official waiver adds, there are still recommendations from past weeks who are still owned in half or fewer of Yahoo leagues including Taylor Gabriel (33 percent), Christian Kirk (38 percent), and Theo Reddick (51 percent). Here are the wavier wire adds for Week 13:

Marcell Ateman, WR, Oakland Raiders

Rostered - Yahoo: 1 percent | ESPN: 0.3 percent

Against the Baltimore Ravens, Ateman saw 10 targets as the apparently top receiving option for Oakland. He was targeted on 33.5 percent of Oakland’s air yards per Next Gen Stats and an average of 10.1 yards past the line of scrimmage. The results weren’t great on Sunday — just three receptions for 30 yards — but the volume is encouraging enough for a flier. There’s a built-in lower ceiling for a deep threat in a Derek Carr helmed offense, but it’s hard to ignore 10 targets, especially when there are few other options on the Oakland roster. Over the next two weeks, the Raiders should be trailing the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, which should suggest a lot of passes and a positive game script for more Ateman volume.

David Moore, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Rostered - Yahoo: 10 percent | ESPN: 6.8 percent

Moore is the big-play guy in Seattle and he’s been able to come down with some big plays lately. On Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Moore went off for 103 yards and a touchdown on four receptions and five targets. He accounted for 33.9 percent of Seattle’s air yards and his average depth of target was 21.9 yards past the line of scrimmage. He gets the hurting secondary of the San Francisco 49ers in two of the next three weeks and the potentially hurting Minnesota Vikings secondary in between. He can be a high variance play, but as get gets more involved in the game plan, his upside is well worth it.

Chris Thompson, RB, Washington Redskins

Rostered - Yahoo: 44 percent | ESPN: 51.3 percent

Chris Thompson hasn’t played since Week 8 against the Giants, but he returned to practice on Monday. Thompson gets an extra long week to prepare with Washington having played on Thursday and not playing again until Monday night. If he does get the nod to go, he could be in line to see a decent workload sooner rather than later. As a good receiving back — and an underrated running back — Thompson could see volume in the new Colt McCoy offense, especially with the shape of Washington’s offensive line if the team is trying to get the ball out quickly. Even if he doesn’t have an immediate impact on Monday — it’s something to monitor — he could be a game-changer for playoff-bound teams in the 56 percent of Yahoo leagues where he’s available.
