If you are pining for rookie Kyle Lauletta to be inserted as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, you are going to have to continue waiting. Coach Pat Shurmur made it clear on Monday that Eli Manning will be the starter this Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

Shurmur also said that despite the Giants’ 3-8 record “this isn’t player tryouts.”
Lauletta, the team’s fourth-round pick, has yet to be active for a game this season. Alex Tanney, who has yet to take a snap, has been the No. 2 quarterback in every game.
Shurmur also wondered why media members were short-changing the idea of Tanney eventually seeing some playing time.

The Giants, of course, bypassed selecting a quarterback No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, choosing Saquon Barkley instead.
Manning said Monday that “I expect to start until I’m told not to.”
With the 37-year-old Manning nearing the end of the line with the Giants, they need to develop a succession plan. It would seem to start with finding out what they have behind him, especially in the 23-year-old Lauletta.
As Shurmur indicated, though, 2019 tryout time is not yet here.
