Giants at Eagles halftime score, 19-11: Giants’ offense gets the early lead

NFL: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants got off to a hot start in their rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the Eagles, jumping out to a 19-11 lead after two quarters.

The Giants got the ball to start the game, and decided to get started early by methodically driving down the field and capping their opening drive with a receiving touchdown by Saquon Barkley. The rookie running back has kept up the torrid pace he set against Tampa Bay, catching a touchdown pass as well as running one in. Barkley has 94 rushing yards on 9 carries, as well as 33 yards on four receptions.

Odell Beckham has caught four of his three of his targets for 63 yards on a depleted Eagles’ secondary.

The Giants’ defense benefited from a number of penalties on the Eagles’ opening drives to hold them to 3 points for most of the half. However, they failed to adapt to Philly’s RPO game after the 2:00 warning, when the Eagles were able to match down the field and score a touchdown on a 15-yard pass to Zach Ertz.

News and notes

Evan Engram did not take the field in the first half after (reportedly) suffering a hamstring injury during warm-ups.

Punt returner and (nominal) wide receiver Quadree Henderson has been ruled out with a shoulder injury (burner)
