Steve Wilks, who interviewed for the New York Giants’ head-coaching job but perhaps surprisingly was not among the three finalists, will become head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
Once all of the deals are officially announced, this means the four top candidates for the Giants’ job will all have landed head-coaching jobs.
Pat Shurmur, of course, will be the Giants’ coach. He is expected to go through a final interview on Tuesday, sign and perhaps quickly travel to the Senior Bowl to scout prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft.
Wilks, previously defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, will be in Arizona. His connection to Giants’ GM Dave Gettleman from their time in Carolina got him an interview with the Giants, but he apparently did not do enough to get the nod.
New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is expected to become head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, and Pats’ defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is presumptive head coach of the Detroit Lions.
It is going to be interesting to track these four and see which of have the most success.
