After a lackluster season where I hovered around .500 for the whole season I started the playoffs a perfect 4-for-4 by leaning on the underdogs last week. This is the playoffs and games (hopefully) will be closer as things tighten up (though there are of course exceptions).
Atlanta Falcons (-3) at Philadelphia Eagles
Last week, I thought the Falcons took advantage of an inexperienced team that also had a few matchup issues with the Falcons. The Falcons linebackers are among the fastest in the leauge and the Rams weren’t able to exploit that matchup with Todd Gurley as they had done with many teams this year. I don’t think they will have that to exploit this week. The Falcons have been an inconsistent team and the Eagles defense and offensive line units are legit. I think this will be a close game and I don’t like how little respect the Eagles have received.
Pick: Eagles stay within 3 (but hopefully lose)
Tennessee Titans (+13.5) at New England Patriots
I typically like big point spreads especially in the playoffs, and maybe I’m not giving any respect to the Tennessee Titans, but this is a team that squeaked into the playoffs with a negative point differential. The Patriots cornerbacks are terrific and the Titans don’t have a whole lot of guys to throw to Eric Decker and Corey Davis aren’t scaring anyone. The Patriots will force the Titans to beat them deep down the field and I don’t think they will be able to. I like the Patriots to win here comfortably.
Pick: Patriots by more than 14
Jacksonville Jaguars (+7) at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Jaguars probably have the most talented roster in the entire league except for the quarterback position. There was a few weeks where Blake Bortles was playing as well as any other quarterback in the league, and if they get that Blake Bortles can win this game easily. As it is I think the Jaguars have a very good chance here because their defense is terrific and Antonio Brown may or may not be at the top of his game.
Pick: Jaguars stay within 7
New Orleans Saints (+5) at Minnesota Vikings
I think the Vikings have a very good chance to win the Super Bowl here because their roster is terrific, but against Drew Brees one broken coverage or bad muffed punt could put this game in peril. I think the Saints will keep it close.
Pick: Vikings win but Saints cover
