The New York Giants will have the same trio of captains this season as they did in 2016. Ben McAdoo told Giants.com on Friday that players have again voted Eli Manning, Zak DeOssie and Jonathan Casillas as captains.

“The group of captains is a special group of men. Obviously, Eli’s history in this building speaks for itself, and a lot of the things that he has accomplished with this team. Just a tremendous pro. Zak, you know he is an all-day, everyday type guy. He’s a man’s man. He really gets that special teams unit going. He ignites them. He leads by example and he knows how to push some buttons, which is always great. J.C. has been a few different places and I think he has found a good home here. He’s a guy who has football get-it. We are fortunate to have all of those guys.”

The only one of those that might have been in question was Casillas, who was voted defensive captain last season when he was a full-time starter for the first time in a career that has seen him play for four teams.

During training camp, Casillas had addressed the idea of being captain again on a defense filled with terrific veteran players.

“It would be awesome. I mean, I was voted captain last year. I felt very accomplished by that, you know, with the locker room and first time being voted, with a lot of veteran guys I feel like I had to get that vote from,” Casillas said at the time. “So, it would be great. I had it one time, it would be great to be one of the captains for the Giants, but I still consider myself a leader, I know a lot of guys do.”

McAdoo said he will again name a group of game-day captains, as well.
