Timeout! The Perfectly-Groomed Justin Pugh Dishes On His Teammates

Giants fans need something to laugh about, and Pugh delivers

It hasn’t been a fun couple of days around here. Between the New York Giants’ shocking 27-24 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and the emotional debate over the National Anthem protests, tensions are running high.

Let’s offer a little bit of levity to try and cool things down.

Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh is perhaps the team’s most well-groomed player, hair and beard almost always perfectly combed and trimmed. As such, Pugh promotes products for Conair, which makes grooming equipment for men. On his day off Monday, Pugh was making the promotional rounds for Conair. Rather than knock around more football questions about the Giants’ struggles, their 0-3 record, etc., we went the (hopefully) fun route. I got Pugh to dish a little inside info on Giants players and their grooming habits.

Who has the best beard? (Besides Pugh, of course)

Pugh mentioned these players:

Rhett Ellison — “Great beard.”

Odell Beckham Jr. — “Pretty great beard.”

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie — “He braids whatever’s growing off his chin.”

Pugh, though, was more interested in talking about the awful facial hair of his offensive line brethren.

“Some of the o linemen have some bad facial hair,” Pugh said.

Weston Richburg — “I’ve gotta keep putting the iStubble (a Conair grooming product) in his locker because he needs it.”

Brett Jones — “Brett Jones has something growing on his chin. I don’t know what he has growing on there.”

Chad Wheeler — “I don’t even know if you can consider his a beard.”

The Wheeler-Adam Bisnowaty hair showdown

Both rookie offensive lineman have long, flowing hair that runs down their backs. Pugh is not a fan.

“I don’t know what the lure is with offensive lineman and super long hair. I don’t see the upside to it,” Pugh said.

Pugh had some special remarks for Wheeler’s locks:

“When Wheeler has his hair down I swear it’s a female,” Pugh said. “I don’t know what product he’s using, if he gets his hair highlighted, or what he does.”

Pugh also wonders when Bisnowaty will actually visit a barber.

“Bisnowaty talks about cutting his hair like every day,” Pugh said.

Who are the best-dressed Giants?

“The most adventurous will be Odell. He always has something different, unique. Normally what he’s wearing not a lot of guys can pull off.”

“Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. He always has something loud and out there.”

Shane Vereen always has really good suit game.”

“Eli (Manning) always has great suits.”

Who are the worst-dressed Giants?

Pugh went straight to his fellow offensive linemen for this one.

“Sometimes I don’t know what we’re wearing as a unit. Eli (Manning) got us all custom suits last year, so I don’t know where some of these guys are getting some of these outfits,” Pugh said.

“When you’re over 300 pounds you can’t be throwing a pair of skinny jeans on. I’m not giving names here, but we had a couple skinny jean problems early on in the preseason.

“When o linemen try to wear some of the skill position guys clothing, because we can’t fit into normal clothing, we have to get everything either made or find it at some obscure store. So when we have some borderline clothing options you’re going to get ripped to shreds. It’s always funny to see.”
