As had been expected, Aldrick Rosas has won the New York Giants placekicking competition. Dan Duggan of NJ Advance Media was first to tweet the news that veteran placekicker Mike Nugent has been cut.

A former NAIA kicker who was with the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 preseason, Rosas was perfect this preseason. The 22-year-old made all eight of his field-goal attempts, with a long of 52 yards. He appeared to sew up the job Thursday night against the New England Patriots when he made all four of his field-goal attempts, including a game-winning 48-yarder as time expired, and all four of his extra-point attempts.

Nugent, a 35-year-old in his 13th season, was 5-for-5 on field goals in the preseason. He made kicks of 54 and 50 yards in Week 3 of the preseason against the New York Jets. Nugent should find a job somewhere in the NFL this season.

Is this the right decision, Giants fans?
