New York Giants News, 9/14: No Panic From QB Eli Manning

His message is “Everybody take a breath”

NFL: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

In his 14th NFL season, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been here before. He isn’t about to overreact to one loss, one poor performance.

“There’s 16 other teams who are 0-1 right now, so everybody had to lose that first game. We just have to bounce back,” Manning said on Wednesday.

How does the Giants’ offense do that after Sunday’s poor performance?

“We just have to execute. Execute a little bit better. Just convert on some third downs, get into a rhythm early, so that’ll be the key,” Manning said. “We’ll bounce back. We’ll be fine. We just have to slow down, everybody take a breath and just run the plays the way we’ve been running them all spring and all summer.

“We don’t have to go recreate anything. We just have to execute, play better football.”

Bobby Hart: Ankle Was An Issue

Right tackle Bobby Hart had a promising preseason. He struggled Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, playing most of the game on a gimpy ankle. He admitted the injury impacted his play.

“It’s my ankle, bro. You try blocking on an ankle,” Hart said.

“You’re trying to stop people from pushing you. You’re trying to plant on your ankle and it’s just ... it is what it is man, it’s part of the game. Comes with it.”

Hart said the harsh reviews of the offensive line in the media and fan base won’t affect the players.

“We’ve got broad backs. It’s New York, there’s going to be a lot of criticism when things don’t go right. I’m sure everyone in that room knows that,” Hart said. “It’s just a part of it. It’s the lay of the land.”

Does Hart expect to play Monday?

“Yeah. I am day to day, just getting better. Just following what the trainers tell me. Just doing everything I can so I can get ready,” he said.

Evan Engram Assesses His Debut

First-round pick Evan Engram had four catches for 44 yards and played 48 of the Giants’ 57 offensive snaps Sunday in his his first NFL game. What did he think of his play?

“I can play a lot better. I did some good stuff, did some bad stuff. Assignment-wise, I was good,” Engram said. “There’s a lot of small details and stuff that I needed corrected and need to lock in on. So, definitely I need to improve and have a better night on Monday.”
