There was an odd-looking play during the second quarter of the New York Giants’ preseason game against the New York Jets during which cornerback Eli Apple appeared to overrun a deep pass to Jet wide receiver Chad Hansen. The play went for a 20-yard gain. On Tuesday, Apple said that was the play on which he injured his left ankle.
“I had to adjust to it, and once I stopped, my foot kind of got stuck in the turf and bended a little bit weirdly inside,” Apple said. “So, it’s just a little sprain.”
Asked if the injury would keep him out of the season-opener vs. the dallas Cowboys on Sept. 10, Apple said “I don’t think so, but we’ll see.”

- Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) is still not practicing. “He got some treatment, he’s in there taking care of himself, getting ready to go,” said coach Ben McAdoo.
- Linebackers Mark Herzlich (stinger) and Keenan Robinson (concussion) continue to be held out of practice. Asked if IR is a possibility for Herzlich, McAdoo said “we haven’t had those discussions at this point.”
