The New York Giants have a preseason game to play Thursday night against the New England Patriots, and the ugly business of roster cuts to deal with on Saturday. Still, the Giants are mostly focused on Sept. 10 when they open the season against the Dallas Cowboys.

“We’ve been thinking about them for a long time. We’ve been working. Everything’s been building for September 10. Whatever we’ve been doing come April, we’ve been building for September 10. All the preseason games were important, of course, but we’re all building for September 10,” linebacker Jonathan Casillas said on Monday. “So, we’ve not just started with Dallas this week. We’ve been talking about Dallas – what they’re doing and how we think they’re going to attack us. So, we have been thinking about them a lot.”

Giants: Dalvin Tomlinson Is Ready

Jay Bromley has earned the right to be the starter at defensive tackle next to Damon Harrison. If, however, Bromley can’t go because of the knee injury he suffered Saturday vs. the New York Jets, the Giants have confidence in second-round pick Dalvin Tomlinson.

“He’s a player that’s played at a tremendous level in the college game. He’s come in, he’s learned the system very well,” coach Ben McAdoo said. “He’s good with his hands, he plays with leverage, he destroys blocks. We feel he’ll be ready to play Week 1.”

Casillas also expressed confidence in Tomlinson.

“I’ve seen some impressive stuff on tape. So, I think for him to play for us, I think we’re all ready for him to play. Whether it’s behind Snacks (Damon Harrison), rotating at the three, whatever it is. I’m sure he’ll be a solid contributor,” Casillas said. “It’s so early, we don’t have anything of his body of work besides college. So, it’s hard to say ‘he’s done this here’ when he hasn’t. From what I’ve seen so far, he’s very strong, he’s very physical, and we’re going to need that play from him.”

One More Preseason Practice

The Giants will hold their final preseason practice on Tuesday. They are off Wednesday before playing Thursday.
