Bobby Beathard has been selected as a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2018 by the Contributor’s Committee. That means that once again George Young, general manager of the New York Giants from 1979-1998, is being bypassed.
I have been beating the “George Young belongs in the Hall of Fame” drum for years now. And I’m going to keep doing it until Hall of Fame voters do what they should and put the main who rescued the Giants’ franchise from the wilderness years in the Hall.
Here is part of what I wrote earlier this month:
Of course former New York Giants General Manager George Young belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s a travesty that 20 years after he left the Giants and nearly 16 years after his death, that Young still has not been enshrined.
I’m not taking anything away from Beathard, whose various teams won four Super Bowls, but I continue to wonder when Young will get the recognition he deserves.
