The list of former New York Giants without a gig in the 2017 preseason decreased by one on Friday as the Chicago Bears announced that they have signed linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

Sheppard was the Giants' nominal starting middle linebacker in 2016, but was often replaced by Keenan Robinson on passing downs. Robinson was playing the bulk of the defensive snaps by the end of the season.
Much more of a downhill "thumper", Sheppard is likely a better fit in the Bear's 3-4 defense than he was in the Giants' match-up base 4-3 defensive front.
There are few really notable members of the 2016 Giants who are currently without a job.
As it stands now, with Sheppard being signed by the Bears, only cornerback Leon Hall, offensive tackle Will Beatty, and running back Rashad Jennings are without contracts.
Although Jennings is (at least) the reigning "Dancing With The Stars" champion, so he has kept himself busy.
