New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple, kicked in the ankle during Tuesday’s practice, did not work on Thursday and might not play in the Giants’ preseason game Monday against the Cleveland Browns.
“He felt his ankle a little bit, so we were precautionary with it,” said coach Ben McAdoo.
Apple downplayed the issue.
“Just got kicked a little bit going against some of the receivers,” he said. “It’s kind of bruised up after practice, but it’s not a big deal.”
Apple had an excellent training camp, playing as though he is ready to take a step forward in his second season. He did miss a few practices in the spring with a hamstring issue, but has been healthy in camp until this point.
Other Injuries
- Wide receiver/kick returner Dwayne Harris did not practice with upper body soreness.
- Linebacker Mark Herzlich (stinger) continued to be held out of practice. McAdoo said Herzlich is “progressing.”
“He is not where we want him to be yet to put him back on the field, but he is working through it,” McAdoo said.
- Per reports from practice, wide receiver Keeon Johnson was carted off the field with an apparent leg injury.
