EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Let’s take a look at some of the things New York Giants players were saying Friday night after their preseason-opening 20-12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Josh Johnson on his performance ...

“It felt good to be able to get out there and get our feet wet. I’m anxious to get on to the film, see what we can learn from, get better from. We have to score touchdowns in the green zone. Not scoring touchdowns wasn’t good enough. We have to get some first downs. Defense made some great plays getting some turnovers and were able to put some points on the board. We need touchdowns, though.”

B.J. Goodson on his comfort level ....

“Very comfortable. The guys, they trust me way more this year. I think they most important thing is they’re comfortable with me. I think that’s bigger than me being comfortable out there. I think the fact that they’re out there comfortable with me makes my job a lot easier.”

Landon Collins on his fast start ...

“It is always a blessing to hit somebody else because we cannot tackle our guys. I can’t unload like I want to on our guys. We got to protect them. We got to keep them for the next game. So when I get the chance to hit somebody else, I am putting all of my force into them.”

Collins on playing alongside Darian Thompson ...

“It was amazing. We always had this chemistry together and we showcased it today. We were on the same page. We made the correct calls, no missed calls, no mistakes. That’s our biggest concern when we are on the field. We want to make sure the defense is making the right calls.”

Geno Smith on whether he moved ahead in his competition with Josh Johnson ...

“Honestly, I’ve just got to continue to improve. We don’t really try and focus on that part of it because this game is hard enough as it is. So, I know that there’s some things I could have done better on the field, and that’s what I really focus on. Trying to be my best at every single occasion. I felt like today I was okay, but I can improve a lot.”

And then there was this ...
