The wide receiver-needy Philadelphia Eagles have signed Alshon Jeffery to a deal reported to be only one year at a cost of $14 million. The deal makes the two-year, $11 million one the New York Giants signed wide receiver Brandon Marshall to on Wednesday look like bargain.
The Eagles needed a wide receiver to give quarterback Carson Wentz someone to throw to. The team’s only reliable wide receiver a year ago was Jordan Matthews.
Jeffery, who caught 304 passes in five seasons with the Chicago Bears, was expected to command a richer, long-term deal on the free-agent market. Rapoport also reported that Jeffery turned down a long-term deal from the Minnesota Vikings.
There is much more going on with the Eagles, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys today in free agency. We will wrap up the major happenings a bit later, but for now you can check out Bleeding Green Nation (Eagles), Hogs Haven (Redskins) and Blogging The Boys (Cowboys) to get caught up.
