NFL Free Agency: Dontari Poe to Falcons another DT domino

Johnathan Hankins’ hopes for rich long-term deal seem to be fading

Another domino has fallen in the defensive tackle market, with Dontari Poe agreeing to a one-year, $8 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Bennie Logan also took a one-year, $8 million deal ($7.68M guaranteed) with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Poe and Logan could be considered comparable players to Johnathan Hankins, the New York Giants free agent defensive tackle who is apparently still seeking a rich, long-term deal.

Poe, 27 next season, is a five-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowler. Logan, 27, is a four-year veteran selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, one round later than Hankins.

It only takes one desperate team to overpay a player, and Hankins appears to be continuing to search for that destination. It is, however, becoming increasingly less likely that he is going to find it.

Will all of this end up leading Hankins back to the Giants on a much cheaper deal than he hoped for? Only time will tell.
