When the New York Giants were searching for a veteran slot cornerback a season ago, they had a serious flirtation with Jerraud Powers. He visited with the Giants last offseason, but signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
Well, Powers could be heading to free agency again. The Giants ended up signing Leon Hall instead of Powers, but could be looking for a veteran slot corner again. Could New York take another run at Powers?
Powers, in his eighth season, ranked 68th out of 112 corners graded by Pro Football Focus in 2016. He earned $1.75 million from the Ravens a year ago, so he certainly would not be expensive.
The Giants might be moving on from Hall, and could use competition for Trevin Wade and Coty Sensabaugh. The folks at SB Nation’s Baltimore Beatdown are recommending that Baltimore move on from Powers.
Powers isn’t a great corner, and at 5-foot-9, 190 pounds he is probably limited to the slot. Still, he has 100 regular-season games of experience (88 starts) and might be able to provide some depth at a position where you can never have enough good players.
Should the Giants take another run at Powers?
