After answering a question about his current coach, Ben McAdoo, on Sunday by saying “I love coach Mac,” New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith veered off script, blasting a former coach he obviously doesn’t love.

“I did see one of my ex-coaches say he didn’t want me to be his quarterback, and that really upset me,” Smith said. “For a guy that we saved his job in 2013, we fought our ass off for him both years. For him to come out and say that just shows you how much of a coward he is.”

That coach is, of course, former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan. Smith was Ryan’s quarterback for two seasons, 2013 and 2014, starting 29 games.

Yet Ryan, speaking on Sunday NFL Countdown, shredded his former quarterback:

"I love Geno Smith, he's a great guy. I just don't want him playing quarterback for me,” Ryan said.

“First of all he drafted me. Second of all he started me. Third of all I gave you everything I had, then you go out and say that,” Smith said. “It’s unfortunate.”
