Ben McAdoo said after Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders that “a little birdie” had informed him there were rumors he would be fired on Monday.
Were those rumors a distraction?
“Maybe for weak-minded individuals,” McAdoo said. “I had a job to do.”
He said he plans to continue to do that job on Monday as the team returns from California.
“I’m gonna coach this team as long as my key card works,” McAdoo said. “I’m gonna show up ready to go tomorrow.”
Giants’ co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch were at Sunday’s game, but reportedly left without speaking to media. Despite having issued a statement a few weeks ago that McAdoo would remain coach for the remainder of the season, Mara said last week that there are “no guarantees in life.” McAdoo said Sunday he won’t ask about his job status.
“I’m not asking and I haven’t heard a thing,” McAdoo said. I’m gonna keep my head down and keep doing my job until I hear otherwise.”
If the reports we heard on Sunday are accurate, he might not have to wait long.
