Justin Pugh will be placed on IR, ending his season, but will not need surgery on his ailing back, the New York Giants announced on Thursday.
Pugh has already missed five games this season because of the back issue, having been sidelined on two occasions. He will wind up missing the last seven games, and playing in only eight this season.
Pugh, 27, will be a free agent at the end of the season. The back injury, along with assorted other injuries that have forced him to miss games the past four seasons, is likely to cost him money on the open market.
Pugh has played a full 16-game season only once in his five-year career, that having been his 2013 rookie season. He missed five games last season with a knee injury, two in 2015 with a concussion and two in 2014 with a quad injury.
The Giants have not yet made a corresponding roster move.
