Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spills the beans

Why didn’t Landon Collins look like LANDON COLLINS, the guy who was perhaps the best safety in the NFL in 2016, for much of this season? Well, because he really hasn’t been that guy.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo admitted Thursday that Collins, among the league’s best defensive players last year, was slowed for much of this season by a high ankle sprain.

The only time Collins has been on the team’s injury list this season was Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, when he was questionable with an ankle injury. He sprained the ankle during the Week 5 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain in the Giants’ second preseason game and was never completely healthy before suffering a season-ending ankle fracture Week 5. Olivier Vernon has missed four games and played only portions of two others this season due to a high ankle sprain.

Collins gets “Kudos” for the effort, even though his play suffered for several weeks. Chris did a film breakdown of what a healthy Collins remains capable of.
