The New York Giants were bad in their 31-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Making matters worse, the Giants also lost Justin Pugh, Damon Harrison, and Kelvin Sheppard to injury over the course of the game.
Pugh started the game at right tackle after missing last week’s game to a back injury. That injury apparently flared up at some point in the game and he was replaced by Bobby Hart.
Kelvin Sheppard returned to the team this week after a rash of injuries depleted their depth at linebacker. Thanks to his experience on the defense he was able to step in and line up the defense from the middle linebacker position. Sheppard started the game strongly, quickly racking up tackles and making an impressive solo stop on a fourth down. His return to the Giants’ defense didn’t last long, as he was lost to a groin injury.
The most heartbreaking injury, Damon Harrison went down in the fourth quarter to an ankle injury, had to be helped off the field and was immediately declared out. Harrison was one of the few players on the defense playing hard, bringing his usual heart and passion to every snap he was on the field.
It also appeared as though the Giants would lose right guard D.J. Fluker, who left the field after taking a hit to the leg on an Orleans Darkwa run. Fluker, however, was able to return to the field.
As of now we do not know that status of Harrison, Pugh, and Sheppard going forward. Stay tuned to Big Blue View for updates as we get them.
