Landon Collins: Giants’ DBs turned down Miami trip

Safety says they did “something different”

Odell Beckham Jr. and other New York Giants wide receiver have been roundly criticized for their off day trip to Miami before the team’s playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. Turns out, the contingent photographed on that Miami yacht could have been much larger.

All-Pro safety Landon Collins said Wednesday on ESPN SportsCenter that defensive backs were invited but chose not to go.

"We actually were invited. We decided not to go," Collins said. "Just we wanted -- there's a receivers group and there is [defensive backs] group -- so it was like I'm going to go with my DBs. And we decided to do something different."

What that was Collins would not reveal.

“I can’t say out loud,” he said.

Collins said players had no issue with the wide receiver’ trip.

"We didn't mind it at all. That was our off day," Collins said. "You have every right to do whatever you want on our off day. They decided to do that."

In my view, this is just another example of why taking the trip — and plastering it all over social media — was not a smart decision. Whether it had anything to do with the Giants’ playoff loss to Green Bay or not, it didn’t look good and it is a story that simply isn’t going to go away.
