Two years ago when the New York Giants were seemingly desperate to find a veteran safety, Rahim Moore was one of the big-name safeties on the free-agent market. The Giants passed on Moore, then a three-year starter for the Denver Broncos, and attempted a youth movement at the position.
Thursday, Moore finally became a member of the Giants. The circumstances, though, are far different. Out of the league in 2015, Moore signed a reserve/futures contract with New York. The Giants also announced the signings of linebacker Curtis Grant, running back Daryl Virgies and guard Martin Wallace.
Moore did not find a big free-agent deal after the 2014 season. He signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, played in only seven games, was cut and did not play a game in 2016.
Let’s quickly look at the other players signed Thursday.
LB Curtis Grant — From Ohio State, Grant went undrafted in 2015 and has been on the practice squads of several teams, most recently the San Francisco 49ers.
OG Martin Wallace — Played one game for the Cleveland Browns in 2013 after signing as an undrafted free agent. Wallace has been on the practice squads of a number of teams since that time.
RB Daryl Virgies — Played for Division III Virginia University of Lynchburg and went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. Virgies provided his own scouting report a while back via Twitter:
I'm 6'0 and I'm a running back and I have a 43inch vertical with a 11-11 broad jump and also my 40 time is 4.31 and I'm 2016 nfl free agent pic.twitter.com/PlIWyJWHRz
