To protect themselves at the safety position, the New York Giants today announced that they have signed rookie Andrew Adams off their practice squad and waived cornerback Michael Hunter.
The Giants originally promoted Hunter from the practice squad earlier in the week when they placed safety Mykkele Thompson on injured reserve with a knee injury. With the news, however, that safety Darian Thompson will be out Sunday due to a foot injury, the Giants were left without a true backup safety on the roster.
Adams, from UConn, was second on the team in tackles during the preseason with 14. He gives them protection at safety in the event of an injury to either Landon Collins or Nat Berhe. Veteran defensive back Leon Hall also worked at safety some during the preseason.
Hunter, who impressed the Giants during the preseason, will likely end up back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
