With Marshall Newhouse perhaps on the shelf due to a calf injury, the New York Giants Wednesday fortified their offensive tackle depth by adding a pair of offensive tackles to the practice squad.
The Giants added offensive tackles Laurence Gibson and Michael Ola to the practice squad. They terminated the contract of center Shane McDermott. The Giants had one opening on the practice squad with cornerback Michael Hunter having been signed to the 53-man roster to replace safety Mykkele Thompson.
Ola, 6-foot-2, 302 pounds, started 12 games for the Detroit Lions in 2014. He played in 13 games that season, appearing at every offensive line spot except center. He played in 11 games for the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers last season, starting seven games at right tackle while in Detroit.
Gibson, 6-6, 300 pounds, has been with the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons, and has spent time on the practice squads of Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears. He has never appeared in a regular-season game.
