EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New Orleans Saints cornerback P.J. Williams was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants after a scary-looking collision with Giants’ tight end Larry Donnell and a teammate.
Players immediately called for help when Williams, a second-year cornerback, went down with 6:15 left in the first quarter. Williams appeared to take a knee to the helmet while trying to tackle Donnell after a short pass completion. He was then kicked again in the back of the neck by teammate Craig Robertson as he tried to help on the tackle.
Williams was immobilized and carted off. It was unclear if his helmet was taken off.
The Saints were already wthout their other starting cornerback, Delvin Breaux, who suffered a broken fibular last week against the Oakland Raiders.
Williams is reportedly being evaluated for a concussion. In all honestly, it looked initially like it might have been much worse.
