What is it about the San Diego Chargers and their top draft picks? Twelve years after Eli Manning, selected No. 1 by the Chargers, forced his way out of San Diego and set the New York Giants up for two Super Bowl titles, the Chargers have another first-round pick whose family wishes he was somewhere else.
"Wish we had pulled an Eli Manning on draft day," Joey Bosa's mother, Cheryl, wrote on Facebook recently.
Bosa, the third overall pick by the Chargers in the 2016 NFL Draft, remains unsigned. In an era with a rookie wage scale where deals generally get done quickly, that is pretty amazing.
Back in 2004, the Giants selected and traded Philip Rivers and a cache of draft picks to the Chargers for Manning.
SD Bolt Report calls the situation "a mess, pure and simple," but adds that "the Chargers are not considering going the Manning route and trading Bosa."
