New York Giants unofficial depth chart: Roster changes shuffle the deck

Let’s see what we think it looks like heading into the preseason

With the opening of the preseason bearing down on the New York Giants and a few roster changes having been made over the past week let’s update our unofficial depth chart.

This is my best estimation of how things stand right now. Please don’t freak out if you disagree with where I have put certain players. The preseason games are coming, and those will help clarify how the roster will eventually look.

Offense

Quarterback

Eli Manning

Ryan Nassib

Logan Thomas

Fullback

Nikita Whitlock, Will Johnson

I’m listing Johnson as a fullback even though he’s really a tight end/H-Back and putting him even with Whitlock. Ben McAdoo says the fullback and tight end positions are lumped in together, so I will treat them that way.

Running back

Rashad Jennings

Shane Vereen

Andre Williams, Orleans Darkwa, Paul Perkins

Bobby Rainey, Marshaun Coprich

I have Vereen No. 2 simply because he is the only back besides Jennings with a defined role at this point. The competition between Williams, Darkwa and Perkins to see who gets the role as Jennings’ backup is too close to call.

Wide receiver

Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, Victor Cruz

Dwayne Harris, Geremy Davis, Myles White

Roger Lewis, Darius Powe, Tavarres King

Anthony Dable, Kadron Boone, K.J.Maye

Your guess is as good as mine right now as to who ends up with the final couple of wide receiver roster spots.

Tight end

Will Tye

Larry Donnell

Matt LaCosse, Jerell Adams, Ryan Malleck

Perhaps Donnell has a better chance to stick around than I thought.

Offensive line

Starters Ereck Flowers (LT), Justin Pugh (LG), Weston Richburg (C), John Jerry (RG), Marshall Newhouse (RT)

2nd team — Byron Stingily (LT), Adam Gettis (LG), Shane McDermott (C), Emmett Cleary (RG), Bobby Hart (RT)

OthersBrett Jones (C), Dillon Farrell (G), Ryan Seymour (G-T), Jake Rodgers (OT)

I remain convinced that at least one, possibly two, linemen not currently on the 90-man roster will be part of the regular season roster.

Defense

Defensive ends

Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul

Owamagbe Odighizuwa, Kerry Wynn

Mike Rose, Stansley Maponga, Ishaq Williams

Defensive tackles

Damon Harrison, Johnathan Hankins

Jay Bromley, Greg Milhouse

Montori Hughes, Louis Nix III

Jermelle Cudjo, Davon Coleman

If the 53-man roster was being determined today, Milhouse would make it. Will that still be the case a month from now?

Linebackers

SLB

Devon Kennard

Mark Herzlich

Romeo Okwara

MLB

Jasper Brinkley

Keenan Robinson

Kelvin Sheppard

B.J. Goodson

WLB

Jonathan Casillas

J.T. Thomas

Brad Bars

Kennard is the only sure thing.

Cornerbacks

LCB

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Eli Apple

Michael Hunter

RCB

Janoris Jenkins

Leon McFadden

Matt Smalley

Slot

Leon Hall

Trevin Wade

Donte Deayon

Safety

Landon Collins, Darian Thompson

Nat Berhe, Bennett Jackson

Andrew Adams, Justin Currie, Mykkele Thompson, Cooper Taylor

At this point it will be a major upset if Darian Thompson is not a starter.
