Color rush uniforms, safety, Ereck Flowers among this week’s questions

It’s time to open the mail. C’mon, we know you want to.

We are in the football dead zone, the period midway between the end of mandatory minicamps and the beginning of training camps. We know, though, that the New York Giants are never far from your mind. Let’s open this week’s Big Blue View mailbag and see what’s on your mind.

Ed says: No. There have been a couple of supposed leaks showing colors/designs, but nothing that should be given any credibility. By the way, I can’t be the only one who despises the color rush uniforms. Can I?

Ed says: Charlie, I can’t really put a number on it. I will put it this way, though. Maybe I’m drinking the Kool-Aid here, but after what I saw in the spring I’m not nervous at all about the safety spot. Look, the Giants don’t have Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas back there, but there is no reason to believe they won’t be better than they were a year ago.

Landon Collins has a full year of experience under his belt and, while he may never be great as a deep safety or in man coverage, he should be much-improved from a year ago. He will be a good player.

Whether it’s Darian Thompson or Nat Berhe at the other safety, I feel way better about those guys than I did about Brandon Meriweather and Craig Dahl, two over-the-hill veterans who should not have been out there. First, they are more athletic. Second, there is upside. If and when they make mistakes there is an opportunity for them to learn and improve.

Ed says: The tight end spot is an open competition, but I continue to believe that Will Tye is the starter and that veteran Larry Donnell could end up being the odd man out. On my last 53-man roster projection I have Tye, Will Johson and Matt LaCosse making the roster. I have fullback Nikita Whitlock also making it, but since Johnson can also play fullback Whitlock might be out and someone like Donnell or sixth-round pick Jerell Adams could be in.
