The New York Giants take the field at Quest Diagnostic Training Center on Saturday for their second practice of training camp. Practice begins at 10:40 a.m. ET and should be the first workout open to the public. Friday’s practice was held indoors due to poor weather. There is a 40 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms in East Rutherford, but as of now practice remains set for outside.
Let’s take a look at what you can expect during Saturday’s workout, and look back at what you might have missed on Friday.
Offense vs. defense
Coach Ben McAdoo wants a “real physical” training camp, but also promised to be “smart” about how the Giants went about building up players. Friday, the Giants practiced in shorts and t-shirts and did no 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 work. That should change Saturday as the Giants ramp up the intensity in preparation for Tuesday’s first fully-padded practice.

New faces
With Damon Harrison and Jay Bromley on PUP and Melvin Lewis on the Non-Football Injury list the Giants had only four defensive tackles available for practice on Friday. That will change today with the additions of veteran defensive tackles Davon Coleman and Jermelle Cudjo to the roster. Lewis and wide receiver Donte Foster were waived to make room for the duo.
Safety job Darian Thompson’s to lose?
Third-round pick Darian Thompson took first-team reps at free safety on Friday. Will that continue? McAdoo was far from ready to anoint the Boise State ball hawk as a starter.
“He was out there running with the first group today. We’re going to give a bunch of guys some opportunities, but the preseason games will really determine who’s going to start there Week One. “
