Despite training camp only being two days old, the New York Giants are already making roster moves.

With defensive tackles Damon Harrison and Jay Bromley starting camp on the PUP list, it opened the door for UDFA rookie Greg Milhouse to get a look with the starting defensive line Friday. It was only the first practice of camp, and the team only did individual drills, but it was an opportunity.

But, there were still roster spots that need filling, especially as the offense will begin practicing against the defense on Saturday. To fill the vacancies, the Giants had a veteran workout after practice, focusing on the defensive line. After the veteran workouts, the Giants ultimately signed a pair of defensive tackles, Devon Coleman and Jermelle Cudjo.

Cudjo, 6-1 and 300 pounds, played in 45 games with four starts with St. Louis and Detroit from 2010-15. His career totals include 51 tackles (40 solo) and 1.5 sacks. Last year, Cudjo had seven tackles (five solo) in his only season with the Lions. He became a free agent when Detroit did not re-sign him after the season. Cudjo first entered the NFL in 2010 as a rookie free agent with the Rams from Central Oklahoma.

Pride Of Detroit had this to say about Cudjo after the 2015 season

"Cudjo is a good mix of veteran experience and relative youth. At 29 years old, Cudjo likely still has the physical tools to add depth to a team. While he didn't contribute a lot in 2015, the Lions are very thin at the position and Cudjo's experience may be just what the Lions need.

Cudjo was a great story for making the roster in 2015. After spending 2014 without an NFL team, Cudjo's excelllent preseason landed him a spot with the Lions. But Cudjo disappointed in the regular season. Appearing in six of the Lions' first eight games of the season (and only managing five tackles), the Lions eventually slid Cudjo out of the lineup. After the bye week ,Cudjo only saw the field once -- in the Lions' season finale."

The Giants also signed Devon Coleman, formerly with the Dallas Cowboys.

Coleman, 6-1 and 295 pounds, played in four games with one start for the Dallas Cowboys in 2014-15. He was credited with three solo tackles in 2014. Coleman was signed as an undrafted rookie by Dallas in 2014, when he played in two games, including his only career start. He also played in two games last season before he was waived on Sept. 28. Coleman spent the season’s final two weeks on the Chicago Bears’ practice squad. He was signed to a reserve/future contract by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Feb. 5, and was waived on May 17.

While he was at Dallas, Coleman generated a fair amount of excitement in the early part of the season, resulting in this from Blogging The Boys

"The tale of the tape clearly shows that Coleman is ready for prime time, holding up well against the starting lines of two separate teams. He is not likely to be as disruptive as he was in the final two games of the preseason, but he has the strength to hold up at the 1-tech and the quickness to play the 3-tech effectively. He shows the ability to be an important piece of this defensive line going forward."

Both Cudjo and Coleman have had strong camps and pre-seasons in the past, hopefully they will continue that this year.

To make room for Coleman and Cudju, the Giants waived DT Melvin Lewis and WR Donte Foster.
