The St. Louis Rams released quarterback Nick Foles, granting his request and allowing him to become a free agent, per multiple media reports. Should the New York Giants have interest in the 27-year-old, who is entering his fifth season?
The Giants have Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib, but have turned over the third quarterback slot several times already. They have gone from Josh Woodrum, since already released by the Indianapolis Colts, to B.J. Daniels to Logan Thomas. They also put in a waiver claim on Zach Mettenberger, but lost out to the San Diego Chargers.
With Nassib in the final year of his rookie contract, the Giants appear to be looking to the future and preparing for the possibility Nassib will leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
Foles, with 35 career starts in 39 games and a 2013 Pro Bowl appearance, could step into that role.
From here, I think it is worth kicking the tires. I have doubts, however, that Foles would be interested in the Giants. He might prefer a place where there would appear to be a path to competing for a starting job. The New York Jets, without Ryan Fitzpatrick, and the San Francisco 49ers, with former coach Chip Kelly, come to mind.
Your thoughts, Giants fans?
