Training camp is almost here, New York Giants fans! Let’s open one final Big Blue View mailbag before players report this Thursday, July 28.
@bigblueview Would Paul Perkins survive on the practice squad or would another team claim him? #bbvmailbag

Ed says: I’m not running the other 31 teams in the NFL, but I would think there is no chance Paul Perkins would get through waivers and make it to the practice squad.
@bigblueview is the hype around S Shepard warranted or is this going to be another Reuben Randle situation?
— Scott Merrick (@smerrick100) July 21, 2016
Ed says: Let’s wait until we get to some games and actually see what Sterling Shepard does before we decide whether the hype is warranted. Oh, and slapping him with the Randle comparison isn’t very nice.
@bigblueview best position battle/individual battle? Mine is starting FS b/t Berhe and Thompson thanks! #bbvmailbag

Ed says: I really don’t know if I can name a “best.” Free safety, linebacker, the final wide receiver spots, tight end, which running backs make the roster, who are the backup offensive linemen? They’re all interesting.
Chris Rifkin asks: Reports indicate that Geremy Davis made some major improvements this offseason and had a lot of time to work with Eli and the starters. Is there a chance that he is a big sleeper in this offense that could actually make a big impact in this offense as a big body WR, especially if Shepard also shows he is the real deal this year, giving the Giants a frightening trio of receivers.
Ed says: I don’t know where you get the “lot of time to work with Eli and the starters” stuff. Davis is a young guy who worked hard in the offseason and had a nice spring — in shorts and t-shirts when there is no bump-and-run coverage. We’ll see. I’m not counting on Davis being more than a special teamer and a bit player on offense.
Chris Holl asks: What are the chances Nassib gets traded? He has starter potential but would have to wait at least another 3 years to take over control from Eli. I don’t see him signing an extension.
Ed says: How do we know Ryan Nassib has “starter potential?” Because Manning said it? Is Manning supposed to come out and say “The guy stinks. He can’t play in this league.” We have never seen Nassib take a meaningful NFL snap. We know zilch about his potential. I don’t see him signing an extension, either. As for Nassib being traded. What has he ever shown that would actually get a team to offer the Giants a draft pick for him? All anybody knows about the guy is that he looks nice in a baseball cap.
