The New York Giants Monday announced several roster changes following last weekend's rookie minicamp. Quarterback B.J. Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams have been added to the roster and wide receivers Kardon Boone and Donte Foster.
To make room, the Giants waived four players, including two who spent time with the team a year ago. Wide receiver Ben Edwards, who played in two games in 2015, was waived/injured. Linebacker James Morris was also waived. A pair of players who had been signed to undrafted free agent contracts prior to mini-camp were also waived. They are quarterback Josh Woodrum and tight end Cedrick Lang. Woodrum had a $20K guarantee in his UDFA contract, per Spotrac.
Daniels has been with the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans in an NFL career that began in 2013. He has played both quarterback and wide receiver His first NFL action came last season, when he appeared in six games combined between the two teams. He completed one of two passes, had six rushing attempts for six yards, two receptions for 18 yards, and five punt returns for 25 yards. He is 5-foot-11, 218 pounds. [Read more]
Williams is the most intriguing, having not played since 2013 after being removed from the Notre Dame team due to an "academic dishonesty" scandal. The 6-4, 253-pound Williams will be used as a defensive end. [Read more]
Boone, out of LSU, originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014. He has spent time on the practice squads of the St. louis Rams and Indianapolis Colts. He is 6-foot, 193 pounds.
Foster, 6-1 and 193 pounds, was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, from Ohio University. He spent time on the Vikings’ practice squad that season and again in 2015, before he was released. Since then, he has spent time with the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys released him March 2.
