With rookie mini-camp looming the New York Giants have announced that they have waived Tight End / H-Back Jerome Cunningham and Safety G.J. Kinne.
Cunningham originally signed with the Giants as a rookie free agent in 2014, and spent most of that season on the practice squad. A year later Cunningham was a camp standout, who looked to have an important role as an H-Back in the second year of Ben McAdoo's offense, however he was waived after the Giants' secondary was hit with injury and room had to be made for a newly signed cornerback. Cunningham was re-signed to the Giants practice squad and eventually made his way back to the active roster, starting three games, with eight receptions for 58 yards.
G.J. Kinne is a former quarterback for Tulsa who was signed to the Giants practice squad last year, and signed to a reserve/future contract in January.
The rookie mini-camp is the Giants first chance to get a look at their freshly drafted rookies, including safety Darian Thompson and tight end Jerrel Adams. The Giants also signed TE/FB Will Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency and have tight end Matt LaCosse, who was on the Giants' practice squad before being promoted to the active roster late in 2015.
Also at the Giants' rookie mini-camp will be tight ends Ryan Malleck (Virginia Tech) and Cedric Lang (UTEP), and safeties Andrew Adams (UConn) and Tyler Loffler (British Columbia), among many others.
