Eric Weddle is the best player on the free agent market at safety, a position of serious need for the New York Giants. Do not, however, expect Weddle and the Giants to show serious interest in each other. Weddle, 31, told Peter King of Monday Morning Quarterback that he wants to go to a winning team.
"I've got three to five years left in me," Weddle said Saturday. "I want to go somewhere I have a chance to win a Super Bowl. Until last year I've never been injured. I've never had surgery. I don't drink, I don't go out. My shoulders, back, legs, hip, they're all fine. I think I bring a lot to a team."
Weddle told King that the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders are at the top of his list.
The Giants, with three straight losing seasons, don't seem to be on Weddle's radar. Thus, it would seem the Giants are going to have to look farther down the safety list to upgrade that position.
