Free-agent defensive end Charles Johnson will visit the New York Giants on Sunday, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. A nine-year veteran, Johnson was released on Friday by the Carolina Panthers.

Free agency doesn't start until Wednesday, but action on the pass-rusher market appears to be heating up already. Mario Williams, released by the Buffalo Bills, was reportedly visiting the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, with the Giants also in the mix for him.

Johnson, 29, was a 2007 third-round pick by the Panthers and has been there his entire career. He has 63.5 sacks for his career with three double-digit sack seasons. Johnson had just one sack last season as he was limited to nine games by a hamstring injury.

Having had only 23 sacks a season ago, and with Jason Pierre-Paul and Robert Ayers heading to free agency, the Giants are in dire need of defensive ends.

Could Johnson be part of the solution? We may know sometime on Sunday if he will get that chance.
