The New York Giants are among "a handful of teams" interested in free-agent defensive end Mario Williams, cut this past week by the Buffalo Bills. That tidbit was first reported by Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports amidst a flurry of tweets from a variety of NFL insiders that Williams is visiting the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.

Garafolo also tweeted that he was uncertain what level of interest the Giants actually have in the 31-year-old Williams. Tom Pelissero of USA Today tweeted that he was told "to watch #Dolphins and #NYG as suitors" for Williams.

That the Giants would, at least, gauge Williams' price tag and his interest in playing for them can't be a surprise. The Giants had just 23 sacks last year, have Jason Pierre-Paul and Robert Ayers heading toward free agency, and have only Kerry Wynn and Owa Odighizuwa under contract at defensive end.

Interestingly, many expect the Giants to be a bidder for Miami's free-agent defensive end, Olivier Vernon, was was given the $12.7 million transition tag this week. Should the Dolphins sign Williams they may be less inclined to match any offer for Vernon.

So, a little news to keep you interested on a Saturday, Giants fans.
