When we started this countdown of the top 10 New York Giants Super Bowl moments you had to know where we were going to end up. With David Tyree and the helmet catch against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, of course. What else could possibly be No. 1 on our list?
You know the scenario. Unbeaten New England had scored a touchdown with 2:42 remaining to take a 14-10 lead. The Giant had third-and-5 from their own 44-yard line with 1:20 to play. Eli Manning, under heavy pressure and nearly in the grasp of New England defenders, somehow shakes free, staggers back and heaves a ball down field toward Tyree. Nothing planned or pretty. Just a chuck down the field. Tyree makes an unbelievable play, catching the ball off his helmet, controlling the ball and never letting the ball hit the turf. The play put the ball at the Patriots' 24-yard line with 59 seconds to play. Four plays later, Manning passed to Plaxico Burress for the touchdown and the Giants went on to knock off Goliath, 17-14.
