2016 NFL free agency: Could WR Marques Colston help the New York Giants?

Marques Colston, all-time franchise leader in receptions and receiving yards, is likely to be released soon by the New Orleans Saints, per multiple media reports. Does the former Hofstra star, 33 next season, have anything left and would the wide receiver-needy New York Giants be a fit if the 10-year veteran wants to continue his NFL career?

Dave Cariello of SB Nation's Saints website, Canal Street Chronicles, does not believe Colston could offer much to a new team.

"Honestly, I don't think he's got much left. His age has started to show on the field. He was always a healthy non-participant during weekly practices this year, just to keep as much tread on the tires as possible for Sundays.

"He could MAYBE be a fourth receiver for another team, but I honestly don't think he has any interest in going through the hassle of signing with a new team. And money isn't really a factor for him, since he's been so smart with it. There's some good quotes from him about that in this article. I'm hoping he just takes the vet minimum and stays in New Orleans for one more year. My bet is that he does that, or just decides to retire. He's always been mature and smart when it comes to his career."

Colston's production has dropped every season since he caught 83 passes in 2012, and his 45 receptions and 67 total targets were both career lows in 2015.

At this point in his career, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Colston would not appear to be the No. 2 wide receiver the Giants should be looking for as a complement to Odell Beckham Jr. Might he be a better fourth or fifth option than Hakeem Nicks, Myles, White or Ben Edwards? Perhaps. After a career that has seen him catch 711 passes would he be willing to move to a new city to fill a part-time role? Should the Giants kick the tires and find out?
