Free-agent cornerback Prince Amukamara said Wednesday on Sirius XM NFL Radio that there have been no contract talks yet about returning to the New York Giants and that "I don't expect any talks to happen" until the free-agent market opens next month.
Amukamara said GM Jerry Reese told him at the end of the season that the Giants would likely wait until free agency began before opening any contract discussions.
Amukamara, a 2011 first-round pick, said he hopes to be back and that the Giants "have expressed an interest."
Amukamara, though, said he is trying to remain "open-minded" and that "you never know what's going to happen."
"I was kinda spoiled. We won the Super Bowl first year and I thought that's how it was gonna be every year and I was gonna play for the Giants for the rest of my life. But I'm in this situation five years later. We haven't been to the playoffs and my contract is up," Amukamara said. "I feel like I've put out on film that when I'm on the field I can definitely play, and play as good as anybody. ... I do have that injury bug attached to me, but it's all fluke injuries. Not trying to make excuses, injuries are injuries."
